New Great Britain Cycling Team Senior Academy squad confirmed

Last week we confirmed the riders who will train on the Great Britain Cycling Team Senior Academy Programme for the forthcoming season, which includes nine new riders across all the disciplines.

Our response to Gear Shift

Earlier this week we welcomed the Prime Minister's announcement of new measures to support cycling and walking, including: investment in secure bike parking; the creation of new 'Mini Hollands'; new design standards for cycling infrastructure; and much more.

In response to the Government's announcement we released a new video featuring Chris Boardman, on why we need to hear less from those NIMBYs standing in the way of safer streets and more from the YIMBYs showing their support.

Highway Code consultation

As part of this week's announcement the Government launched a consultation on changes to the Highway Code - which contained some real progress for our Turning the Corner campaign, which we launched in 2016.

The campaign aims to eliminate the current ambiguity in the Highway Code by protecting cyclists and pedestrians with a universal rule to give way when turning, and our members were vital in helping us to spread the word. The consultation closes on 27 October 2020, and in the coming weeks we'll be sharing details of how you can respond in support of the campaign.

Giro glory for Geoghegan Hart

History. Maker. It's been four days since Tao Geoghegan Hart became only the fifth Briton to win one of cycling''s Grand Tours with victory at the Giro d''Italia - and he also took the honour of being the first winner of the Giro to do so without wearing the maglia rosa at any point during the race!

Tao's achievement is first and foremost a tribute to the qualities of a rider who is an excellent ambassador for our sport. His success is also a tribute to the people who have helped him along the way - including Cycling Club Hackney, Condor Cycles, the Dave Rayner Fund, his coaches in the British Cycling academy and many others who volunteer their time to put on grassroots cycle sport events in this country. Everyone at British Cycling joins with them in cheering this latest success story for our country.

Tackling the diversity gap

Today we announced plans for a new, long-term project to tackle the diversity gap within British cycling, with a particular focus on increasing black and minority ethnic representation in the racing community, volunteer network, recreation programmes and the organisation's own workforce.

Working closely alongside expert diversity and inclusion consultants from Inclusive Employers, British Cycling will publish its comprehensive diversity and inclusion framework in December. The overarching plan will bring together work from across the organisation to strengthen diversity in all forms, including ethnicity, gender, disability and LGBTQ.

Voices in Cycling

We've released the first episode of the British Cycling 'Voices in Cycling' series, which aims to create a platform to discuss diversity and inclusion in cycling from a range of perspectives. Our first host is Dr Marlon Moncrieffe, from the University of Brighton, and in this episode he speaks to Charlotte Cole-Hossain and Maurice Burton about their experiences in the sport - including their successes, the hurdles they have faced and how we can change the sport for the better.

Making the top 10 in Turkey

More than 100 athletes representing 29 nations took to the start line in Sakarya, Turkey, for this year's UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships last weekend, with several former winners and medallists aiming to claim the rainbow jersey.

Huge congratulations go to Great Britain Cycling Team riders Isla Short and Ben Thomas, who crossed the line in a fantastic seventh place in their respective races.
